This weekend marked the 25 year anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act and what better way to celebrate then by hosting a parade? Almost 3,000 people gathered in the streets of New York for the first ever Disability Pride Parade, funded by the nonprofit group Disability Pride NYC.

The parade started at Madison Square Park and ended in Union Square Park. Union Square park held many most festivities including performances from disabled dancers, comedians and musicians including hip hop artists 4 Wheel City, as well as appearances from disabled actors and actresses.

“It was a really beautiful time, I made some new friends and met some old ones. I thought it was a great thing that people with all disabilities could come out, be celebrated and have a day where it’s all about ” said Dustin Jones, a disability advocate and a board member of the group ‘Disabled in Action’. “On a regular basis most people with disabilities are over looked and misunderstood from all aspects.”
