Event description

Please join us for MoMA’s bimonthly program welcoming individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing to participate in an ASL-interpreted, private gallery talk focusing on one of MoMA’s exhibitions, along with a wine and snack reception.
In September we will explore the exhibition Taking Back Our Space: Photographic Perspectives with the curatorial team. The exhibition brings artist Marianne Wex’s watershed feminist photography project into dialogue with contemporary artists Nona Faustine, Martine Gutierrez, K8 Hardy, Yuki Kihara, Joiri Minaya, Paulina Olowska, and Wendy Red Star. These practitioners reappraise the relationship of bodies to public space from Black, queer, and 21st-century feminist perspectives. In this context, the notion of “taking back space” resonates as a reclamation of physical territory, historical narratives, and the ability to represent oneself.
