Dedicated in 1961 to preserve the achievements of pioneering documentary filmmakers, photographers, authors, conservationists, and explorers Martin and Osa Johnson the Safari Museum® offers visitors programming year-round in Osa's hometown of Chanute, KS. From 1917-1936 the Johnsons worked in East and Central Africa, Northern Borneo, and the South Seas. Long-term exhibits include the Johnson Exhibition and Imperato African Gallery of West African ethnographic collections. Special exhibits regularly rotate through the Selsor Art Gallery. Johnson films can be viewed in the Snark Theater and researchers are welcome to contact staff for access to collections and archives. Copies of Johnson books and films on DVD can be purchased through Osa's Ark Museum Shop. FYI - The largest exhibit of Johnson photos outside of Chanute is at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge in Orlando, FL. The Johnsons were the namesake and inspiration of the Martin + Osa clothing brand from American Eagle Outfitters.
